2008 The Year To Win
There hasn’t been an election like this in decades.
Written By: Joe Solmonese
Human Rights Campaign
We have exactly one opportunity to change the direction of our country, to prevent four more years of anti-GLBT policies, to stop a presidential candidate who's vocally opposed to same-sex couples adopting childre
n and a hateful amendment that could mar our historic victory in California.
So I'm asking you to be one of 2,008 supporters to step up in the next 7 days, before our online membership campaign ends. And to thank you for your gift at this critical time, we'll send you a free magnetic picture frame.
In no recent election has so much been at stake.
This year could be a major step forward for equality, but we must not allow ourselves the seductive complacency of thinking "it'll all work out." We face a presidential candidate who has actively campaigned for a same-sex marriage ban, and who multiple times in recent weeks, said he's against loving GLBT couples being able to adopt.
Meanwhile, voters in Florida, Arizona and California are turning on their radios and TVs and hearing that marriage equality threatens their families. The radical right is spending millions on a barrage of ads. Their claims are patently ridiculous (how could creating a loving family harm anyone?), and we're actively drowning them out – but it takes significant resources. As you know, we're already working tirelessly to stop the anti-marriage amendments in California and other states. But that has stretched our resources, and other efforts need your support.
But if you think your donation doesn't matter, think again. YOU can help drive more victories this year, one by one, with a membership gift in the next 7 days.
Click here to become a member.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, stick that frame on your fridge with a picture of you doing something fun, and let's put an emphatic, victorious exclamation point on the Year to Win!
Warmly,
Joe Solmonese
President
Are You A Writer?
If you are a writer, a poet, a producer, or whatever the kids call it these days, we have a job for you. A SOLObeatz Production is hunting for writers for the ever-growing newsletter. We’ve got a number of blogs, content sites, etc, that are all starting to pick up traffic (or haven’t even been built yet!) and in all cases, we no longer have the time to do ALL the writing ourselves. We are looking for smart, talented, individuals willing to work with us and provide or manage content for the websites we’ve built (and are building!) in a bunch of different niches.
If you’ve had experience in writing or even NO experience but a willingness to put your very best into a project, we’d love to work with you! Interested? Send us off an email to admin@asolobeatzproduction.net!
If you’ve got any samples of your writing, send them on over. Give us as much information as you can, keep it to the point and let us know that you’re serious. If you’ve got a particular topic you know a lot about or would just like to write about, let us know!
August Man of the Month
You guys voted and the winner for August man of the month is Christopher Maurice Brown.
Brown, one of two children, was born May 5th, 1989 and raised in the small town of Tappahannock, Virginia, the son of Joyce Hawkins and Clinton Brown. Brown was influenced by the artists his parents played on the home radio, such as Michael Jackson, Donny Hathaway, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. A dancer since the age of two, Brown was not aware of his vocal talents until the age of eleven. Before becoming a vocalist, he was interested in becoming a rapper.
At thirteen, Brown was discovered by a local production team who visited his father's gas station searching for new talent. Since then, he began his recording career and moved to New York, staying there for two years. Brown's local production team organized an audition before Def Jam Vice President Tina Davis, who currently works as his manager. At the age of 15, Brown was then sent to perform for L.A. Reid and was subsequently signed in 2004 to Jive Records. By early 2005, Brown began work for his debut album, working with the likes of Scott Storch, The Underdogs, Dre & Vidal, Bryan Michael Cox, Bow Wow, and Jermaine Dupri.
U, SEX & THE TOWN
Written by: Jonny B. Mitchell
A SOLObeatz Production; along with The Black Shell, is presenting its first masterpiece collaboration, “U, Sex & The Town.”
This story revolves around four close friends, three guys and one girl, who deal with everyday issues in life, including their experiences with meeting people from the internet. All of it taking place in Oakland, California ‘The Town.’
Kenny Whitley, Johnson ‘J.R.’ Ross, Teddy Mathis and Tonya Brown bring you the heat. Here’s an excerpt from the first episode:
“It’s amazing what you see when you actually open your eyes. What people do when you’re not looking, where a store was when you needed it three days ago, and how close you actually live to a jailhouse. Well, all but the last one is true for me. I have lived in a nice loft in downtown Oakland for a year now and don’t plan on moving no time soon. I am literally close to everything; the stores, the train, the BART, everything. But today, I noticed something new. I had a new neighbor in my building.
The loft across from me was never empty, but I had never seen anyone come or go out of it. That is, until this morning. Oh, I am sorry, where are my manners, Kenneth Whitley is my name. I mean, that is what my mother named me. Even though I hate it, everyone I met loved it. Go figure. People do say I look dead on Columbus Short, but with a bigger ass and much more hair. Naturally curly, of course. Wouldn’t he be jealous? I could’ve been his stunt double when he was dancing all close to Chris Brown in that dance scene. Oh, if the world were mine.”
